

After a free throw by UALR, Tristan Thompson made two free throws to push the Mean Green's lead to 65-62 with 1:18 left. Shorter, who played all 40 minutes of the game, scored with 2:37 left to make it 63-61 North Texas. The game went back and forth in the last 10 minutes of the game when Shorter was able to give the Mean Green some breathing room.

UALR (15-16, 7-9) battled back to take a three point lead at 52-49 on a 9-2 run over the next three minutes. North Texas used an 11-3 run to take a 47-43 lead with 13 minutes left in the game.

Playing without guard Josh White who missed the game with an injury, the Mean Green held UALR to 37 percent shooting for the game and without a field goal for 7:57 of the final 8:05 on the clock. Shorter scored a career-high 24 points as North Texas (19-10, 8-8) will face the Troy Trojans in the opening round of Sun Belt Conference Tournament on March 5. Powered by a career-night from senior Shannon Shorter, the North Texas men's basketball team muscled out a 72-69 road win over UALR for their second straight win.
